Your Path to Competitive Amateur Golf in Las Vegas
Join America's oldest amateur golf tour and experience competitive golf the way it was meant to be played. Fair flights, championship courses, and a clear path to national competition await.
You know the feeling. Every weekend golfer in Las Vegas dreams of taking their game to the next level, but finding quality competition that's both challenging and fair? That can feel nearly impossible. Maybe you're getting bored with the same casual Saturday morning foursome, or you've tried a few tournaments only to feel completely outmatched before you even stepped up to the first tee.
Here's the thing: the GolfWeek Amateur Tour Las Vegas Chapter gets it. We understand what drives your passion for competitive golf, and we've built something special just for golfers like you.
As America's oldest amateur golf tour, we've spent decades figuring out exactly what amateur golfers want most. It's not just about playing tough courses (though we'll get to those). It's about having a clear path to improve your game, competing against players who challenge you without crushing your spirit, and experiencing that championship-level golf rush right here in Southern Nevada. What we've created goes way beyond just scheduling tournaments.
Since we started, we've built a real community in Las Vegas where golfers of every handicap can compete fairly, make genuine friendships, and work toward something bigger: qualifying for our prestigious National Championship in South Carolina.
Compete at Top-Tier Courses
Playing the same courses week after week gets old fast, especially when you know Las Vegas is home to some of the most spectacular golf in the country. The GolfWeek Amateur Tour Las Vegas Chapter changes that reality by bringing you to the courses you've always wanted to play but maybe couldn't justify the expense for casual rounds. When you're competing for points, prizes, and pride, every shot matters more, and every course becomes a new challenge to conquer.
Our tournament schedule reads like a golfer's bucket list of Las Vegas area courses. You'll experience the precision required at TPC Las Vegas, where PGA Tour pros have battled for championships. You'll navigate the stunning desert vistas and strategic challenges of Paiute Golf Resort's three championship layouts. These aren't just rounds of golf – they're memories in the making, played on courses designed to test every aspect of your game. The difference between playing these courses casually and competing on them in a structured tournament is night and day. Tournament golf brings focus, intensity, and improvement that casual play simply can't match.
National Championship Pathway
Most amateur tournaments end with a trophy and a handshake, but the GolfWeek Amateur Tour offers something far more meaningful: a clear path to our National Championship in South Carolina. This isn't just another tournament – it's the culmination of a year's worth of competitive golf, where the best players from every chapter across the country gather to compete at one of America's most prestigious golf destinations.
Every tournament you play, every birdie you make, and every clutch putt you sink earns you valuable points in our comprehensive scoring system. The players who consistently perform well throughout our Las Vegas season earn the right to represent Nevada at the national level, competing against the finest amateur golfers from coast to coast. This pathway transforms every local tournament from a single event into part of a larger journey. Suddenly, that approach shot on the 16th hole at TPC Las Vegas isn't just about winning the day – it's about earning your spot among America's best amateur golfers.
The qualification process is transparent, fair, and achievable for dedicated players across all skill levels. Whether you're a single-digit handicapper looking to prove yourself against elite competition or a higher handicap player steadily improving your game, the National Championship represents the ultimate goal that makes every tournament round more meaningful.
Fair & Flighted Competition
Nothing ruins a golf tournament faster than unfair competition, and too many amateur events throw players together without regard for skill level, creating frustrating experiences for everyone involved. The GolfWeek Amateur Tour solves this problem with our time-tested flight system that ensures you're always competing against players of similar ability, making every tournament both challenging and achievable.
Our handicap-based flights – Championship, A, B, C, and D – create multiple tournaments within each event. This means whether you're a scratch golfer or carry a 20 handicap, you have a legitimate chance to compete for flight championships and valuable points toward our National Championship qualification. The system is built on USGA Handicap Index standards, so you know the competition is not only fair but maintained with the integrity that serious golfers demand.
This flighting system creates something beautiful: competitive tension without the frustration of being overmatched. You'll find yourself in playoff situations, battling for flight victories, and celebrating achievements that matter because they were earned against golfers who present real challenges. The result is tournament golf that's both accessible and meaningful, where improvement is rewarded and every player has a path to success.
Tour Flights & Index Policy
To keep competition fair, players are placed into five flights based on ability:
- Championship: 0 – 3.9
- A Flight: 4.0 – 8.9
- B Flight: 9.0 – 13.9
- C Flight: 14.0 – 18.9
- D Flight: 19.0+
Your placement is determined by the AGT Index, which works much like a USGA handicap but is based only on tournament play. Key differences:
- Only Tour rounds are used
- Triple bogey rule replaces Equitable Stroke Control
- Uses a different number of scores/differentials
The
AGT Index updates after every event and becomes more accurate as you play more rounds (minimum 8 full 18-hole rounds in the past 2 years for validation). Until then, scores are subject to review by the Handicap Committee.
How it’s calculated:
- Best scores are used from your most recent Tour rounds (up to 16 in the past 2 years).
- Example: with 8 rounds, your best 4 are used; with 16 rounds, your best 8 are used.
For new members: flight placement is based on information shared at registration. An official AGT Index is created after your first completed 18-hole round.
For returning members: placement is based on your prior season’s final AGT Index, including National Championship results if applicable.
Flight changes: reviewed by your Local Tour Director and approved by the National Office.
Note: The AGT Index is for Tour use only and is not a USGA handicap.
